To Whom It May Concern:
Kazi Ahmed is a talented artist who is well known in Key West for his innovative Tropical Name Paintings. Last year he worked with our students at Art Camp to help them create their own alphabets. All of the children enjoyed his session at the East Martello Museum and many of the visitors also stopped to watch his workshop.
One of the wonderful things about Key West is the artistic tradition of working artists. Tourists and locals enjoy seeing these images take form and welcome the opportunity to talk with "the artist -at-work." Recently, during the "Pirates in Paradise" festival, the Key West Museum of Art and History mounted an exhibition of pirate paintings. The artist put up his easel and continued to work on a canvas during gallery hours. Museum visitors were fascinated and returned throughout the day to watch the progress.
We support the efforts of artists like Kazi Ahmed and welcome the opportunity to work with them in Key West. Our community, and especially our children, who work with these artists during the summer Art Camp sessions, have learned much about the artistic process by watching these artists-at-work.
